Beginners Combination Classes
Pre-School Dance
Ages 3 to 4 ½, The
Pre-School Dance Program is an introduction to dance. The primary goal
is to foster a love of movement. The classes include learning basic
dance movements, counting, remembering sequences, coordination, balance,
and a chance to work on socialization. The Vocabulary covered in the
Pre-School Dance Program is all steps which a 3 year old can master as
they build confidence. The Pre-School Classes all learn a simple Tap and
simple Ballet routine to perform in the end of the year show. The
Classes are a combination of Tap and Ballet lasting 30 minutes. 1 time
per week
Kinder Jazz
This energetic class is
for dancers ages 5 to 6 ½. It prepares students to move on to Beginning
Jazz or hip hop, focusing on an introduction to jazz and the
coordination required for hip hop movements. This class will also focus
on listening to different beats and rhythms in music. The goals of
Kinder Jazz are to foster creativity, freedom and expression in
movement, and a love for dance. Classes are 30 minutes, 1 time per week
Level One
Dance
Ages 5 to 6. The Level One Class is the
next step up from the Pre-School Program, and expands the concepts.
Students begin learning more complex dance step as well as learning to
work and dance independently from the teacher. The Level One Class
Learns a simple Tap and simple Ballet Routine to perform in the end of
the year show. The classes are a combination of Tap and Ballet lasting
45 Minutes. 1 time per week
Level Two Dance
Ages 6 ½ to 8. The
Level Two Class is an introductory class where students learn the
fundamentals of Tap and Ballet. All Level Two Classes learn a Tap and
Ballet Routine to perform in the end of the year show. The Level Two is
a Combination Tap and Ballet Class Lasting 1 hour, 1 time per week.
Jazz & Hip-Hop
What is the difference
between Jazz and Hip-Hop?
The Jazz style of dance is what is seen in
many Broadway type shows such as "Cats". It is a more structured, Ballet
based style of dance. Hip-Hop is a fast, higher energy type dance seen
in music videos and commercials.
Beginning Hip-Hop
Ages 7 ½ to 10. This class allows students
to learn simple Hip-Hop moves and routines and dance to contemporary
music. Class includes a Warm-up at the beginning to also improve
dancers’ flexibility, balance, and muscle strength. This is the perfect
introduction to Hip-Hop movements and style. Students learn a Hip-Hop
routine to perform in the end of year show. Class is 40 minutes, 1 time
per week.
Intermediate Hip-Hop
Ages 11 to 14 (Middle School). This is the
next step up in Hip-Hop Classes. The Routines get a little faster and
the steps a little more intricate. This class also features a complete
Warm-up at the start of every class to improve Flexibility, balance, and
muscle strength week after week. Students learn a Hip-Hop routine to
perform in the year end show. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.
Teen Hip-Hop
Ages 14 to 18. This is
a fast paced, high energy class full of stretching, calisthenics, and
Hip-Hop routines. Hip-Hop Three is designed to build muscle strength and
flexibility, as well as a full emersion into the Hip-Hop Style of
dancing. Students learn a Hip-Hop routine to perform in the year end
show. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.
Hip-Hop Warning:
Hip-Hop Music in large
contains adult themes. The Dance Asylum uses Radio and TV as its guide
for what to play in classes. If it’s on TV or played on the Radio we may
use it in classes.
Beginning Jazz
Ages 7½ to 10. This is
a beginner program that teaches the fundamentals of Jazz technique and
style. This class is ideal for mastering coordination, balance, and
grace. Students will learn a Jazz routine to perform in the year end
show. Class length is 45 minutes 1 time per week.
Intermediate Jazz
Ages 11 to 14 (Middle
School). At these ages a student can take a dedicated Jazz class that is
more focused on the intricacies of Jazz dance. The Jazz classes may use
contemporary music similar to Hip-Hop, but the movement and routines are
all jazz based. Students will learn a Jazz routine to perform in the end
of year show. Class length is 1 hour 1 time per week.
Teen Jazz
Ages 13 to 18. A Jazz class for older
students and young teens with previous Jazz experience. At these ages a
student can take a dedicated Jazz class that is more focused on the
intricacies of Jazz dance. The Jazz classes may use contemporary music
similar to Hip-Hop, but the movement and routines are all jazz based.
Students will learn a Jazz routine to perform in the end of year show.
Class length is 1 hour 1 time per week.
Beginning Contemporary
Ages 7½ to 10. This is
a beginner program that teaches the fundamentals of Contemporary and
Lyrical movement and style. This class is ideal for mastering balance,
grace and performing with emotion. Students will learn a Contemporary
routine to perform in the year end show. Class length is 45 minutes 1
time per week.
Tap Classes
Tap Three
This is a Tap class for students who have completed Level Two or for
older students just beginning Tap. Students begin learning time steps
and different complex tap combinations. Level Three Tap holds the
fundamentals which all other tap levels are built on. Students learn a
tap routine to perform in the year end show. Class length is 40 minutes
1 time per week.
Tap Four
This is a Tap class for students who have completed Level Three, or have
some previous Tap experience. Tap Four takes tap to the next level,
adding more difficult steps and combinations. Students learn a Tap
routine to perform in the end of year show. Class length is 1 hour 1
time per week.
Tap Five
This is the next level up for students who
have completed Level Four or have quite a bit of previous Tap
experience. The exercises and Tap steps are faster and more complicated
than Tap Four and students begin mastering such moves and Pull Backs,
Wings, Draw Backs, and Traveling Time Steps. Students learn a Tap
routine to perform in the year end show. Class length is 1 hour one time
per week.
Tap Six
Our highest level of tap classes, this is
for the advanced Tap student who has completed all previous Tap Levels
or has had several years of previous Tap. Students learn a tap routine
to perform in the end of year show. Class length is 1 hour 1 time per
week.
Adult Classes
Adult Hip Jazz, Open
Ballet, Beginning Tap & Intermediate Tap
Ages 18 and up. Students in our adult
classes learn moves and routines in a casual atmosphere. Our instructors
understand the needs of adult students and approach the classes
differently than children’s programs. Many of our adult students use the
Jazz and Tap classes for fitness and social activity. Adult classes work
on routines to perform in the year end show, but participation in the
actual performance is optional. Class length 45 minutes 1 time per week.
Ballet Classes
Ballet Three
This is an introductory class to basic
Ballet technique and movement. This is a class for students who have
completed Level Two Dance or older beginners. Ballet is a wonderful way
to teach grace, poise, balance, muscle control, and confidence. Students
learn a routine to be performed in the year end show. Class length is 40
minutes 1 time per week
Ballet Four
This is a class for students who have
completed Ballet Three or have had some previous ballet experience.
Ballet Four is for the more serious Ballet student who wants to learn
ballet fundamentals. Students will learn a routine to perform in the end
of year show. Class length is 1 hour 1 time per week.
Ballet Five
This is Ballet class for students who have
completed Ballet Four or have had several years of previous ballet
experience. Students learn a routine to perform in the end of year show.
Class length is 1 hour 1time per week
Ballet Six
This is an advanced Ballet class for
Students who have completed Ballet Five or have had several years of
previous ballet experience. Students learn a routine to perform in the
end of the year show. Class length is 1 hour 1time per week.
Pointe I
Pointe I is an introductory class for
Ballet students who wish to dance on Pointe. You must be at least 10
years old to participate and you must take a regular ballet class as
well. Students will learn a routine to perform in the year end show.
Class length is 1 hour 1 time per week.
Pointe II
Pointe II Class is for the serious ballet
student who wants to learn the fine art of Pointe. You must be at least
12 years old and have had at least 1 year of Pointe I or have taken
Pointe before. Students will learn a Pointe routine to perform in the
year end show. Class length is 1 hour 2 times per week.
Competitive Classes
Each year our teachers
invite students with talent, commitment, and good team spirit to
participate in a variety of competitive classes. The students
participate in competitions held all around the West Michigan area. |
